Whichever parent has legal custody of you is who you have to live with until you turn 18, unless that parent gives you permission to live with the non-custodial parent. However, the non-custodial parent can petition the court to have custody changed. At your age, you would be given to chance to tell the court who you would prefer to live with. The court makes the final decision, but they will take your wishes, along with many other things, into consideration when making that decision.

Yes, but it will be hard to find an apartment without your parents signature or another adult signing the lease with you also it will be hard to have a job to afford to lilve on your own while going to school and trying to keep your house or apartment in running condition think really hard about this don't grow up too fast some of us have to but don't do itj ust because enjoy being a teenager I never had the privelage my mom made me work and get all my school clothes, and supplies since I was 12, at 15 I started having to pay rent to her and I wasn't allowed to move out or she would call the cops on me so I worked for 600 a month and paid her 450 making it impossible for me to save enough money to get a car or an apartment until one of my friends let me move in with her but I had to wait until I was 18 to move out so unless your in a situation like that don't move out if your parents are helping you do what you need to do then stay there hope this helps Good Luck and God Bless!!!

The legal age of majority for Indiana is 18. An 18-year-old may leave home without parental consent as he or she is considered a legal adult. The exception is, if there is a court order in place that states otherwise.

Leaving Home

The parents of an non-emancipated minor have the custody and control of such minor. This means that the parents can legally decide where the minor lives until the minor reaches the age of majority (usually 18) or otherwise becomes emancipated.

If a minor moves away from the home of his or her parents or legal guardians without their permission, that minor can be picked up by authorities as a runaway. Depending upon the state, there may be an evaluation stage in which the situation is reviewed to insure that the individual is not endangered by being returned to the home. Some states have recognized that minors that are 16 or 17 are often considered questionable as to their ability to leave home. Authorities may not want to deal with minors in this age group and some states are establishing legislation enforcing the age of majority and eliminating any questions in the eyes of the law enforcement community.

Check with your local laws for more specifics. If you are in an unsafe environment, law enforcement personnel can put you in contact with the appropriate agencies to obtain help.

Only if you can provide for yourself.

I have heard many things but if you are going to be 17 soon then i say do it. go for it just know that it is going to be extremely difficult for you especially if you drop out of school. the law says you have to be 18 to move out but in Michigan you have to be 17 so idk its all confusing to me. i am moving out this Sunday and going to live with my boyfriend.

This is my question BTW.

I live in Evansville, Indiana and I live with my Dad and stepmom and stepsister and both my stepmom and stepsister physically and emotionally abuse me. I've been dealing with this for the past 10 years for my life and now that I'm 16 and old enough to take care of myself. I'm tired of it and wanting to move out. My question is: if I were to move out of my parents house and into a friends or family members would the law become involved and force me back into the house?

You have to be 18 to move out unless your father gives you permission to do so. if you are abused you can contact the CPS and they will assist.
