Trazodone is a prescription medication used to treat anxiety, while morphine is a prescription used to treat severe pain. These two medications should not be taken together, since they can cause excessive drowsiness and increase the level of serotonin in the brain to dangerous levels.

Check at drugstore.com and click on the "interactions" link. I did a check for you and there is nothing listed about mixing the two, but it is important not to mix either or both with alcohol.

Counseling is a standard component of pain management programs. Though all patients are different, it's common for opiate patients to use anti-depressants as pain and depression go together. Anyone who says otherwise isn't in real pain.

Some AD's are also used as an augment to some pain medications. The mechanism isn't fully understood, but some AD's do help some opiates' effectiveness in some patients. It's never worked for me, but I can't use AD's anyway as they have the opposite effect.

The biggest problem with using opiates and AD's is that both cause drowsiness and respiratory depression, and the combination can increase that. However, doctors don't prescribe one or the other without knowing the dosages involved and the patient's overall opiate history.
