No. Silver membership only allows: Personal Messaging to people on your friends list, Compare your Gamerscore with friends, Voice chat and messaging to your friends. Also you can download and play previews of new games, play all the live arcade games, purchase games, and yes, even rent movies (recent releases).

I have Xbox live silver, and I have been playing Modern Warfare 2 online. I don't know how, but I am.
you probably got a deal as in 2009 they had a free games deal where you got free multiplayer with some games ( including modern warfare 2) until the fall of 2009, or he had made his account less then one month before making it, also Microsoft needs to change this as no one wants to pay $10 for 1 month 25 for 2 month or 1 year for 60 in November, no matter how fun it is

∙ 12y agoWith Silver Membership, it is not actually possible to play multiplayer games 'online'. In order to play multiplayer games on Xbox LIVE (along with some other benefits, such as access to certain products in Xbox LIVE Marketplace) you must pay for Xbox LIVE Gold.
If you want to play online games for free, buy a PlayStation 3, PC or Wii.

∙ 12y agono. online multiplay for ALL X Box 360 (and original X Box) games need a GOLD membership. silver membership will allow you to buy marketplace items, chat with freinds and have a friend list, but not allow any sort of online multiplayer

But you can still send messages to your friends.
