Southerners tend to roll their Rs and to sound final Es. On top of this, many speak regional languages (Provencal, Corsican, Catalan or Basque), though in some places the dialect is a mixture of French and a regional language, hence the term Francitan to describe a mixture of French and Occitan (Provencal). To check whether a dialect is southern or not, find out the word for "to go". In standard French it's "aller" and in southern French "anar"..
