You are not supposed to do so. I am not a lawyer, but I believe that it is illegal. However, if you do record a conversation, I do not know how the police will know that you did it. You would have to tell them "I recorded a conversation and the other person did not know about it. What are you going to do about my crime?" As a practical matter, I think they would say, "Go away, little boy!" (Or Little Girl, as the case may be)
That is a bootleg recording. Scroll down to related links and look at "Bootleg recording - Wikipedia". Bootleg recording, often called piracy, is stealing a copyrighted recording. I think the questioner is refering to wiretaping (if you are recording a phone conversation) or just audio surveillance if you are secretly placing a recording or transmitting device in the room.
Yes, it is illegal and you need permission or the person informed they are recorded.
Added: (in the US) Not necessarily. The laws of the various states differ on this subject. In many states only the knowledge of one party to the conversation is required - and that one person can be the one recording it. You must check on the law in YOUR particular state.
Yes, certain privacy laws state that you cannot record someone without their permission.
Twelve states require ALL PARTIES to consent to the recording. These are:
California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington.
Other states (and federal law) allow recording as long as at least ONE of the parties involved is aware of and consents to the recording. In this case, the person doing the recording meets that requirement.
Wiretaps normally require a warrant since NONE of the parties involved in the conversation would be aware that it's being recorded. However, a recent federal appeals court ruling stated that some warrantless wiretaps are legal.
That depends on where you are. Different states have different laws. In some places, all parties must give permission. In some places, only one person has to be willing to be recorded.
blackmail :D
No
No its not illegal
Yes., unless you are law enforcement and have a warrant to do so.
It depends on the state you're in. Some states allow it if "One person agrees", which is YOU!!! Check your state statutes.
Juvenile records are somewhat more 'protected' than adult criminal records and unless you are asking for your OWN record, you may have a problem in getting a copy. Even if you are now an adult and wish to see your own juvenile record you MAY have to file an FOI request or get a court order to gain access to it. If you are simply curious about someone else's juvenile record you may be out of luck. Contact the Clerk of Court's office and ask if they can offer you guidance specific to your particular state.
Key field
Sometimes. But there are some state laws that prohibit secret recordings, especially of telephone conversations, where there is an expectation of privacy.
To tape someone without their knowledge can be illegal depending on the circumstances. It's illegal to record a private act without knowledge or consent but it's legal to record public acts such as speeches.
It is definitely illegal to tape record someone without their knowledge in Maine. This is the case unless otherwise legally stated.
yes. it's also quite creepy.
Tape record WHAT? Other people's conversations (without them knowing it or giving permission)? No, it is not - it's an invasion of privacy.
no because you have to warn them before you record
No its not illegal

Yes, as long as you are a party to the conversation, you may record it.
New York makes it illegal to tape record someone unless one party to the conversation consents. In most states it is illegal to records someone without their knowledge.
Yes, if he/she is made aware conversation is being recorded
