What to name your company
Hard question to answer. A company name has to represent who and what you do and are. What you represent.
Remember: BRANDING! Your company name has to be your BRAND.
Don't shy away from your family name if you have been doing it forever.
If you want to do something different, then look at your product(s) what are they for?
If you want to check out if someone else is using the company name you want in your State (assuming your are in the USA), go to your state's Secretary of State website. In our State it would be:
http://www.secretary.state.nc.us/corporations/
Once there, go to Corporations and CORPORATIONS by NAME -- and that will help you see if anybody else has your company name.
To help you 'think', open the phone directory and go to the yellow pages....what are other companies called? and why?
Test the names with your friends - ask them to be honest.
LARGE companies hire focus groups to help them decide--that can become expensive.
