There are two nation-wide cell networks that allow you to browse the internet. The EDGE network (for original iPhone) and the 3G network (3G is faster, but not as widespread and can only be accessed through the iPhone 3G ). iPhone monthly plans include unlimited use of the internet, without using up your calling minutes.
If you can take advantage of a nearby wireless hub, you'll have much better speed than when you're on a cell-phone data network... but even without wireless, you can still browse, email, work and play via the EDGE or 3G cell-phone network. But i have actually just turned the wifi off because i have gotten the 3g to work so fast
Yes, you can use your iPhone 3G(S) to access the Internet if you have an available WiFi connection.
Yes. You can go to the Apple APP Store on any computer and on your iPhone and on an iPad if it is capable of connecting to an available cellular data network. However, iPods and iPads that are not cellular models will not be able to access the Apple APP Store without a WiFi connection.
No but you need a wifi connection. I have a touch too. This doesn't apply for the iPhone
No software is required to use Facetime on the iPhone 4. It is required that you be on a WiFi connection. Facetime can only be done from one iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4. If you are using Facetime on a jailbroken iPhone then it is possible to Facetime chat with out using a WiFi connection. Simply go into Cydia and search for a package called My3G. This app allows you to trick your iPhone into thinking is it on Wifi connection allowing for Facetime chat over a 3G connection. An alternative to using Facetime would be Skype. Skype can be downloaded in the Apple App Store. Skype is video chat that can be done from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 or iPhone 4 to a computer or computer to computer.
Use open the app if you are on iOS 6. If you are not on wifi then it will fall back on your cellular connection (3G or LTE). The only problem is that AT&T blocks this feature on iOS 6 unless you have their shared plan
