Tamiflu is an antiviral. It is OK to take your cough syrup with this. Remember to take every one of your Tamiflu capsules so that you will kill as many of the flu viruses as you possibly can. If you stop taking them early, your flu might come back and next time you will not be able to take anything for it.

Oxycodone is available alone or it is often prescribed in a preparations containing an anti-inflammatory such as Acetaminophen. When referring to just Oxycodone, there are no direct interactions with promethazine/codeine syrup however it is recommended that you do not mix the two unless you have consulted your doctor first. As both medications can cause respiratory depression, when combining the two it is advised that the patient be monitored to ensure a steady heart rate and breathing pattern. There may be additional concerns your pharmacist will be aware of.

If you are ever in doubt do not hesitate to consult your local pharmacist if your Dr is unavailable. Any pharmacist can and by law (in most places) must assist you regardless if you have filled the medication with that pharmacy or not.

A pharmacist is often times more knowledgable when it comes to drug interactions than a Dr as it is their sole duty to monitor a patients safety when it comes to taking medications. Many people often forget that pharmacists must complete a high level of schooling and are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to medications.

In short: no. But, everyone's chemistry is different; and answering you question depends on a lot of factors- especially your prior experience with taking these drugs.

Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, codeine and xanax should not be mixed; or at least taken concurrently. They both act as central nervous system depressants and will have additive/synergetic effects upon one another. Xanax is a benzodiazepine and acts at the GABA-A receptor; where as codeine is an opiate analgesic and acts on the mu-opioid receptors as an agonist. While these are different receptor targets in the brain, both cause depression of breathing and similar CNS-depressive effects and will potentiate one another. If approved by your doctor, take the recommended dose and no more. I would recommend also taking half (or less) of your regular dose of codeine & xanax and work your way up if you need to.

Promethazine will cause sedation, but also acts to alleviate nausea (usually in conjunction with opiates like codieine). It belongs to a particular type of antihistamines that increase the effects of opiates; so again, here it may increase the effects of codeine. Although, its impact on xanax, other than increasing drowsiness, will be minimal if you take it at the prescribed doses.

Note that xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazepine, and it typically wears of somewhat quickly--especially after you get accustomed to your dose. Again I repeat that you should NOT take these drugs together (and if you do then take half of your typical dose of each drug, or less). You should be okay taking the promethazine with codeine to help with nausea; but I would also recommend taking a lower dose of the codeine and working your way up from there. If you take xanax during the day for anxiety, please not that promethazine will increase drowsiness. Additionally, promethazine has some minor antidepressant and antipsychotic effects; so if you take any other additional antipsychotics or antidepressants, care should be used.

REMEMBER: xanax and codeine are both addictive drugs and produce very intense and potentially life threatening withdrawal symptoms if you become dependent. Try to use the lowest possible effective dose; and I can not stress enough again; AVOID combining these drugs, try to space out dosing if at all possible. Xanax can also cause amnesia, especially in higher doses, so this can pose additional problems if you "forgot" that you had just taken a dose and proceed to double up and take more codeine and/or xanax (this is common sometimes at higher doses of benzodiazepines).

It would not be appropriate to take these two medications together. They both can cause significant drowsiness and would be a duplication in treatment.

No. You can only take medicines together if they have been prescribed for you by a qualified medical practitioner.
