Pepto-Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) is a Category C drug. Adequate studies have NOT been done to determine its effect, if any, on a human fetus and adverse effects have been shown in animal studies. Category C drugs should be taken only if the potential benefit to the mother can be shown to outweight the possible risk to the fetus. Since several other drugs exist that can provide the same type of relief as Pepto-Bismol with a lesser risk factor, you would be better off taking one of those medications and avoiding any risk.
- Antacids : calcium carbonate, such as Tums or Rolaids, or slightly stronger medications like Zantac or Pepcid (both category B)
- Anti-diarrheal : Imodium (category B)

∙ 12y agoyes u can. if your stomach starts to get upset it does help. trust me i have three kids and i took it. and they all are beautiful. ITS OKAY.... nothing will happen.
_My OB gave me a list of medications that were safe during pregnancy and it specifically said DO NOT TAKE PEPTO BISMOL, so I would definetly NOT take it while pregnant. Doctor's advice!

∙ 12y agoIts not recommended because Pepto has aspirin in it which is a blood thinner, and dangerous for the unborn baby. You should try Tums or Maalox for heartburn instead.

Yes. I've taken pepto bismol once because I had slight nausea. After taking it, I had severe stomach pains, vomitting, and trouble breathing. I'm pretty sure it was some kind of allergic reaction. If you are allergic to asprin, you probably shouldn't take pepto bismol because it contains a type of Salicylate, which some people are allergic to. Yeah, certain ingredients can turn your stool black. I have noticed that particularly when I have taken Pepto-Bismol.

How long must you wait to breast feed after taking medication?
I'm not sure exactly how long you must wait before breast feeding after taking Valium, which would also depend on the dose the mother has taken. However, I do know Valium, (a/k/a Diazapam), is long-acting, and whatever a breast feeding mother ingests will be passed to the child through 'mother's milk'. (When my child was newborn, I had a badly abccessed tooth, for which I was given Demerol to treat the pain. My infant child, after breast feeding, became very drowsy, and it scared me half-to-death! But, that was Demerol, and it was a pretty high dose due to the severe oral pain.) If taking a small dose (5mg), I wouldn't think it would not have serious effects, but you should consult a doctor or pharmacist to be certain.

It is only safe to take Klonopin (an anti-seizure, anti-anxiety medication) and Mucinex DM (an exptorant) if you are NOT pregnant. If you are pregnant, however, neither of these medications should be taken without your doctor's express approval. So if you aren't pregnant, but are breast feeding, do not take this medication without your doctor's express approval. Otherwise, yes, you can take both of these medications together.
