ALPRAZOLAM (XANAX) IS A BENZODIAZEPINE TRANQULIZER used for anxiety and panic disorder. Tramadol (ULTRAM) is a non-narcotic pain killer used for mild to moderate pain, many times used for back pain. Tramadol is, in fact, an opioid, and thus does pose a risk when taken with a benzodiazepine - respiratory depression via additive effects.
