Can you take your wife with you when you join the army?

She won't be able to go with you to Basic Training, but, once you're assigned to your duty station, you will be required to apply for housing, which will result in you either being assigned housing on-post, or being provided an allowance to pay towards rent for a dwelling off-post. It is not an overnight process, and may take several months for this to happen.

If you're deployed while in the Army, or sent on a hardship tour (such as a year-long tour in the Republic of Korea), your spouse will be unable to travel with you.

If you and your spouse are both in the Army, it is possible to be guaranteed that you both are assigned to the same duty station, provided that your occupational specialties allow for it (an infantryman, for example, won't be assigned to a post with no infantry units).

The rules vary greatly according to the duty station. Depending on the location and the rank of the military person, they may be able to bring their dependents with them. For most stateside locations, the family is moved with the military member and may even be provided housing on base. Overseas, it is much less likely to happen.
