Yes, you can use CLR in a dishwasher to clean lime/calcium deposits that have built up. Source: CLR manufacturer website at related links.
Yes you can. Just don't put dishes in it at the same time! just pour a puddle of clr and water mixture (mix as per instructions on bottle) onto the bottom of the dishwasher. -Don't use to much or the dishwasher will have bubbles on your floor.- Make sure to scrub problem areas e.g. calcium and rust. then run dishwasher EMPTY on it's "light wash" or "quick rinse" option and turn off the heat dry (you don't need to dry an empty dishwasher!). Do not leave the house until the cycle has finished. When cycle is finished, remove the filter and sprayer arms/tower and rinse in clean water. repeat if necessary. Enjoy your now clean dishwasher.
You should not use laundry detergent in your dishwasher. It produces too many suds and the dishes will not rinse correctly.
If you are referring to the cleaning product CLR, no. Its ingredients are:WaterLactic AcidGluconic AcidLauryldimethyl HydroxysultainePropylene Glycol Normal Butyl Ether
Soap that is not formulated for a dishwasher can make a lot of suds. Be very careful if you use Borax.
Modern dishwasher "soap" is actually a no rinse detergentfirst developed for the US military for use in mess hall dishwashers to help reduce the incidence of food poisoning in troops. Never use soap in a dishwasher!
Personally, I wouldn't recommend using CLR in the dishwasher unless you live in an area with extremely hard water and don't have a water softener. If this is the case, Jelmar (the manufacturer of CLR) recommends using 1/2 cup CLR once the empty dishwasher is at least half filled with water.
Run the dishwasher empty with CLR in the bottom. Then Run it again with soap in it to wash the CLR out.

Be careful. My sister did this and "cleaned" her dishwasher and the calcium build up went out of the washing area and clogged the tube that went over the washer. It required me to uninstall the washer and remove the tube for replacement.

NO! CLP, yes. CLR is a strong acid that is meant for cleaning toilets and sinks. It will corrode a gun.
