NO. NO. The reason you can't is because the center shaft in a 2-wheel drive transmission is shorter then a 4-whell drive transmission. The 4-wheel drive trans. has a transfur case that slides over the center shaft, so the shaft must be longer.
It's usually 3/8-16 for the bell housing and 7/16-14 for the tailshaft mount.
I just received a 350 turbo 6" tailshaft, Shipping weight was 130 lbs. That's with no fluid or converter.
transfer case will not bolt to the t56, its 2wd only. would have to fab up a remote or divorced t-case setup or a custom tailshaft($$$) , or run 2wd.

That would be the 700R4
with torque converter and no transfer case (2wd) about 125 lbs.
Yes, The 350 turbo is the standard trans in that model, 85 caprice's usally don't have a manual installed from the factory, nor do most hot rodders put one in, not to my knowlege. It is possible that the car could have had a turbo 400, a upgrade option, which has different tailshaft housing, which makes the tranny mount and the driveshaft differ from the 350 mounts and driveshaft length. jr
no it will not fit at all
You can buy a bell housing that mates anything to anything.
Should be 6 bolts on the bell housing to mate it to the engine.
The drive gear is in the tail shaft of the transmission. The driven gear is on the end of the speedometer cable housing.
It would require the complete disassembly of the transmission because the tail shaft is the last part to come out of the transmission housing.
