Can you use a steam cleaner to clean hardwood floors?

[Edit]
Yes I agree with the statement below. Make sure to know that carpet steam cleaners are not ever recommended for hardwood or laminate flooring. There is a a really good article that shows what can happen. Make sure you buy what is appropriate for the floor and what is recommended by the manufacturer. http://www.findanyfloor.com/article/SteamCleaningLaminateandHardwoodFloors.xhtml - there's the article is you wanted to read it. Have a great day.

Answer

Yes you can, but not the type you would use on your carpet. The Bissell 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam Cleaner is a wonder, and just lifts that dirt off the hardwood floors without damaging them. The purchase of one of these cleaners (not that highly priced) is well worth it.

Answer

I have been professionally cleaning for 15 years and have never been satisfied with any techniques for wood floor cleaning until I started using a Sargent Steamer a little over a year ago.

Other processes such as square bonnet mops would just too hard to work with and puts a terrible strain on your neck and back and it just doesnt get the dirt up with the recommended spray and wipe cleaners such as bonet. They are a joke.

You just are not going to get all of the dirt up and the floors tend to come out with a hazy smeared finish. They look terrible.

The best way to clean a wood floor or any floor for that matter is to vacuum every inch with a good canister using of course the bare floor attachment (never use a beater bar on any bare floor.

Then proceed with a Steam Machine (Not a steam carpet cleaner) This machine is different. I use a Sargent Steamer.

There is no scrubbing on your part. The machine does the work for you with high temperture steam. The high temperature will not hurt your floor either unless you stay stationery in one spot for a long period of time. I have cleaned numerous wood floors and have never had any problems. Just use it with no more effort than a vacuum. You will not believe the dirt that come up and it dries almost instantly so there is no standing water.

Your floors are clean, dry with no film or smears. There is nothing better. Trust Me!!! you will never go back to a mop and bucket or those stupid square mops again.
