A 5% betadine solution is best for dogs and cats. Mainly use for aseptically cleaning of wounds and surgical suture (after spaying and neutering). Watch for excessive discharge on the wound site, if this happens. Flush it with saline solution and the betadine to dry it. Minimize the use of betadine to once every other day and watch for allergic reaction. If your dogs or cats are allergic to seafood, DO NOT USE it. Consult a nearest DVM if symptoms persist. Be kind to animals. Yours truly, Jon D. DVM.

The first option for treating an open wound is?

rinse the wound with purified water. you can accomplish this by boiling the water and then letting it cool to room temperature, or you can purchase distelled water at a home health care store or pharmacy. if that is not an option or can not wait for boiling water to cool use regular tap water. after the water then use peroxide on wound, then use betadine it is what the hospitol uses before surgery to kill infectiouse diseases. you can also purchase that at the pharmacy.

Can you use liquid bandage on an animal?

Yes, a liquid bandage can be used to seal a minor wound on an animal. However, there are two major cautions when doing this. First, make sure the animal can't lick the bandage off - the bandage may not be healthy for them to eat and it will end up exposing the wound to all the bacteria in the animal's mouth. Second, animals tend to move a lot, so the liquid bandage is much more likely to break down than it would on a human (who presumably will keep from moving the area too much).

What can you for for a dog with a weeping neck?

A weeping wound is a sign of infection. Arrange to get the dog to a veterinarian for antibiotics. In the meantime you should attempt to wash out the wound with warm soapy water. Cut back long hair if a long haired breed. Do not try to use human medicine on the dog, they react differently and some may kill it faster than the infection. If the dog will allow, pour some Hydrogen Peroxide on the wound to help disinfect it, Note: it will bubble and turn white...This is a good sign. To properly help this animal you will need to speak to a Vet ASAP.
