Yes you can, but you'll have to use more because of its texture so use 2 cups powdered sugar for every 1 cup granulated sugar.

Powder sugar is just granulated sugar that has been spun for a smoother texture. It is usually used for frostings or such.

Yes, you can. I made bread using powdered sugar instead of granulated on a one-to-one equivalence. I have also added it to tea, batter for chicken, and honey mustard sauce. If you search the internet you'll find varying opinions on how much of one you can substitute for the other and what the outcome will be depending on what you are baking/cooking.

Sure but it may change the texture. I use powdered sugar in biscuits if I want a really smooth biscuit. You may need to add less.

Granulated sugar shouldn't be used as a substitute where powdered sugar is specified in a recipe; granulated sugar will be too coarse.

Can you substitute granulated sugar for powdered sugar in whipped cream?

I wouldn't. You are likely to wind up with a saggy, disappointing mess. Powdered sugar dissolves instantly. Granulated does not. Follow the directions for the whipped cream you are making.

Can substitute granulated sugar for powdered sugar in key lime pie?

No. Powdered sugar absorbs water, whereas granulated sugar does not. This makes a huge difference in baking, since interchanging these can turn the texture into something brick-like. (It is similar to attempting to substitute sweetcorn kernals for cornflour).

Is confectioners' sugar same as pure sugar?

Confectioners sugar (also called Powdered sugar) differs from "regular sugar" (Granulated sugar) in two ways. Confectioners sugar it's milled to a much finer grain and, and it has cornstarch in it to prevent caking. If you run of of Granulated sugar, you can substitute with Confectioners sugar. Multiply the amount of granulated sugar needed by 1.75. It takes 1 3/4 cup of powdered sugar to substitute for 1 cup of granulated sugar.

Yes, you can substitute white granulated sugar for cane sugar, since most sugars do come from cane. The important thing is to use granulated (not powdered), and to use white if that's what's called for, and to use brown sugar if that's what's called for.

Is granulated sugar and powdered sugar a mixture?

Granulated sugar is just sugar. Powdered sugar has corn starch in it so that it will stay as a powder and not lump.

How much confectioners sugar do you need for 1 cup of granulated sugar?

Cornstarch is added to confectioners (powdered) sugar to prevent the sugar from lumping, so the amount is quite minimal. And adding cornstarch to granulated sugar isn't what makes it confectioners sugar. Confectioners sugar is much finer and softer than granulated sugar, it has a texture much like that of cornstarch. So you would have to be able to grind granulated sugar into a very fine powder in order to make it like confectioners sugar.

Convert granulated sugar to powdered sugar?

eHow (and confirmed by Domino) says 1c graunular sugar can be substituted for 1 3/4 c confectioner sugar, but comments say way too sweet and recommendations were made to not substitute in puddings/sauces as powdered sugar has a bit of cornstarch.

One cup of granulated sugar is equal to approximately 1 3/4 cups of packed powdered sugar.

Can you use granulated sugar to replace powdered ones?

No, you cannot substitute granulated sugar for powdered sugar directly. However, you can make your own powdered sugar from granulated sugar using a BLENDER. Run the granulated sugar through a BLENDER until it reaches the proper consistency. It is important to stir the sugar up from the bottom manually at least twice during the process to ensure all sugar is processed properly. In doing this, however, you might find the end product to be slightly different in taste or consistency. Things to consider when you substitute: powdered sugar is sugar of a very fine consistency mixed with a little cornstarch to prevent clumping. This makes it smoother for frosting mixes. It is the cornstarch that will make some uncooked things come out a little cloudy looking if you substitute, and would usually make cooked things a little thicker. You may detect the flavor difference imparted by the cornstarch in some things.
