Yes. If a judgment is entered against you by a court, your wages may be taken from you to pay the judgment. Garnishment law allows the judgment creditor to obtain a continuing writ of garnishment which orders your employer to deduct money from your periodic wages until you have paid off the judgment.

Garnished wages happen because a lawsuit was won against you. These wages will continue to be garnished until the judgement is paid completely.

A payday loan company garnished my wages by contacting my employer after I told my employer I didn't think they could legally do this without a judgment. Is this legal in CA What are my options?

When you signed the payday loan paperwork, one of the clauses probably said that they were allowed to garnish your wages. Your payroll department is going to know the law pretty well and wouldn't allow it to happen without proper authorization. There really is only one option and that is to pay off the loan.

What percentage of wages can be garnished in Texas?

Texas does not allow wage garnishment for creditor debt unless the judgment holder has not other means of collecting monies owed. If the judgment debtor owns real property or has a bank account that is subject to levy or holds other funds, investments, etc. that can be seized and liquidated wage garnishment is not allowed. Please be advised, when wages are deposited in a bank account they are no longer considered exempt from creditor judgment, even if the account is jointly held.

Can a husband and wife be sued for medical bills if the husband is on social security but the wife works?

If both are contractually responsible or liable for the debt, then yes; and likely both will be. While neither SSI nor disability can be attached, as soon as the payment hits the bank, the creditor can garnish the account. Both the wife's wages and bank account can be garnished.
