my dog had the same problem. I took him to the vet because he was always licking it and scooting on carpet. They said he needed his anal glands emptied, which they did. But this really did not help. They then said it might be Allergies to some food. Now I watch what I feed him. No more dairy. The only people food I feed him is chicken and occasional hamburger, both cooked, along with an all natural dry dog food. Make sure the dry dog food bag says ALL NATURAL on it. This has really helped to clear up his rear end problem.
