Hitler wanted to rule Europe. He wanted resources like oil and mineral ores. He went after them too. He invaded Poland on 9-1-39 and that was the start of World War 2. The Japanese wanted OIL and natural resources. They try to prevent the US from coming after them as they went after oil in the Dutch East Indies and elsewhere. So they attacked the US. The rest is history.
