I'm guessing you've messed up the wires? Year make model does help, The info belo is 1980-1990 olds 307 18436572 is the firing order, dist rotation counter clockwise, # 1 is drivers front.
If your distributor is in the right place.The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and it goes clock wise on the top of the distributor cap
