Closest point land to land Alaska to Russia?

Answer:
The water between Alaska and Russia is called the Bering Strait. In the strait there are two islands, Big Diomede and Little Diomede. belongs to the US and Big Diomede belongs to Russia. They are about 2 miles apart, so you can see one from the other. But both are small, featureless, uninhabited islands. So you -can- see Russia from the US but just barely, and there's really not much to see.
actually Little Diomede is inhabited year round
