Organic compounds have both hydrogen and carbon. They are very important in biochemistry, since they make up most of living organisms.
Organic macromolecules in the body are divided into 4 general groups:
Carbohydrates, like sugars
Lipids, like fats and oils
Nucleic acids, like RNA and DNA
Proteins, like enzymes and collagen
These four macromolecules have different subunits, which are bonded together by dehydration synthesis.
Inorganic molecules in the body are water and salts.
- organic - a slightly strange concept (IMHO) that foods raised without "assistance" are healthier to eat.
- organic compounds - chemicals based on the element carbon. It was once believed that they could not be produced by ordinary chemistry laboratory processes, but could only be produced by living things - thus "organic".
