if the points on a line graph weren't connected. you wouldn't be able to see your points very clearly. they are connected so that you can see the ups and downs of the thing you're plotting
Yes. If it was disconnected, you could remove an edge from the component with the lower chromatic number. This wouldn't affect the chromatic number of the first component.
