I plugged the HDMI cable into the HDTV and into the PS3. Then I went to the settings for both the HDTV and the PS3 slim and set them for HDMI and sync. When it works right putting a disc into the PS3 will turn on the HDTV and also switch the HDTV over to that HDMI input rather than a cable box or similar item even if it was on the cable box when you last used the HDTV.

The HDMI cable should be plugged in to an HDTV. If you have a Laptop or PC with a HDMI plug slot on it is also so it can be plugged in to a HDTV and is an out HDMI PLUG SLOT like the one that is on the PS3.
