Could Australian soldiers keep their service rifles after World War 2?

by ship, most serving in the pacific islands.

They were sent to both Europe and Japan to gain land and use that land as air bases, fuel supplies, storage, amunitions factories, and defenses. The guys going to Japan had a tougher time (I think)
