∙ 15y agoNobody knows for sure when Jupiter was discovered but ancient Greek and Roman astronomers knew of its existence. The Romans actually named the planet after their god of the same name and I believe that the Greek's named the planet after the god Zeus.

∙ 12y agoJupiter is almost as bright as Venus, usually. It would have been known since ancient times that its position wandered through the heavens. Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn date from prehistoric times. Mercury was also known to the ancient Greeks and Babylonians.
Uranus can barely be seen by the naked eye, but was much more recently discovered (1789).
