The equinox occurs at a moment in time; it doesn't have a beginning and an end. The equinoxes are generally on March 21 and September 21, but the exact day and time will vary from year to year because of the cycle of leap years. You can look up the exact time on the U.S. Naval Observatory's web page at "Earth's Seasons", at the link below.

The vernal equinox is the beginning of spring; March 21 in the northern hemisphere, September 21 in the south. The autumnal equinox is the beginning of fall.

In the northern hemisphere, March 20, 2010 at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time.

The vernal equinox is typically on March 21, but this can vary a day either way based on the cycle of leap years.

This was true during the last century. However, there was that special leap year 2000

(divisible by 400) which shifted the vernal equinox to one day earlier, so that during

this century the typical Equinox is March 20, rather than March 21. Only in the 24-th

century we will again encounter the conditions of the 20-th century.

Generally March 21 and September 21, although these dates can fluctuate by a day either way, depending on the cycle of leap years. You can see the dates and times of the equinoxes and solstices at the US Naval Observatory's web page "Earth's Seasons", linked below.

Technically, the vernal equinox is one point in the sky where the sun appears each year, as

our angle of view towards the sun changes during earth's annual orbital tour. The modern

calendar is regulated so that the sun always reaches that point on March 21.

The vernal, or spring, equinox happens approximately on March 21 for the northern hemisphere, and about September 21 for the southern hemisphere. This date can vary a day or so either way depending on the cycle of leap years, and of course, depending on where you live.

You can see the list of equinoxes, solstices, perihelion and aphelion on the "Earth's Seasons" web page from the U.S. Naval Observatory, linked below. All times listed there are Greenwich Mean Time, or "Coordinated Universal Time".
