Salvation is completely by grace, that is, by the unmerited (undeserved) and unearned love of God as revealed in Jesus Christ. Our efforts to live a moral life, give to the church, help the poor do not complete or in any sense bring about salvation. Rather, they are a way of saying Thank You to God.
