The Cardiovascular System and Exercise

1) Delivers oxygen to working muscles
2) Oxygenates blood by returning it to the lungs
3) Transports heat (a by-product of activity) from the core to the skin
4) Delivers nutrients and fuel to active tissues
5) Transports hormones
Exercise places an increased demand on the cardiovascular system. Oxygen demand by the muscles increases sharply. Metabolic processes speed up and more waste is created. More nutrients are used and body temperature rises. To perform as efficiently as possible the cardiovascular system must regulate these changes and meet the body's increasing demands

The Circulatory system different again. The Circulatory system is the flowing of the blood that is pumped from the heart all around the body through the veins and arteries to everywhere it is needed. The blood is red in colour meaning it is oxygenated (it contains oxygen). This oxygen is also carried all around the body with the blood to help the body function corectly. The Circulatory system is also made up of blood vessels, arteries, capillaries and veins. The blood is pumped from the Right Atrium then the blood is pushed through the tricuspid into the Right ventricle then the blood is pushed through to the lungs and then around to the Left Atrium the blood is then pushed through the bicuspid and into the Left Ventricle where it is then pumped strongly all around the body. The process then repeats.
