A chilton is your best bet, it is found at the local library. Alternatively you may be able to find it online at www.autozone.com they have an online manual. Alternatively, you can ask any old-timer, they will be able to hook you up.
in the owner's manual
Refer to the owners manual. There should be diagrams in there for the wiring order.
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 odd# cylinders on drivers side/even# cylinders on passengers side. distributor turns clockwise, #1 wire should point towards #1 cylinder if distributor installed properly
try auto zones web site they have good wiring diagrams
It's down next to the distributor & quite difficult to access. The easiest way is to remove the ignition coil bracket and the wiring harness bracket on the rear of the manifold then pull off number 1,3,5,&7 plug leads off the distributor cap.
drivers side rear by the distributor under the wiring harness. follow fuel line from under side
The #1 cylinder should be the first plug clockwise from the electrical connections on an HEI distributor. Or, the first plug clockwise from 3 O'Clock when facing towards the rear of the vehicle.
There are two screws that hold it to the distributor.
Clockwise.
