he probully baptize him in the name of the father son and holy spirit cuse they didn't no about jesus bak thenNew answer: No one in The Bible actually water baptizes in the name of Jesus. The baptism in the name of Jesus is the baptism with the Holy Ghost as told by John himself.

Mt 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

John's baptism was a baptism in water, of repentance. It was a public display to get ready for the Lords Messiah and the kingdom of heaven. They confessed their sins and got ready for the Messiah. This was John's ministry. As far as I know it was not done in anyone's name except maybe God's but it was definitely done for the kingdom of heaven.

I know there are people today who baptize in the name of Jesus but the baptism in the Bible done in the name of Jesus Christ is a spirit baptism -- and what else would it be? What else in the Bible is Jesus Christ going to baptize with?

1. The Holy Ghost

2. Or fire

Some people every time they see baptism in the Bible they automatically think water baptism but that's not so. Water baptism is just an outward thing or a public thing to show the baptism of the Holy Ghost within. Notice that in Acts 2:38 there isn't anyone present who baptizes them, the people there are just told by Peter to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This is Pentecost! This is the first fruits. Jesus just told them in Acts 1 that...

Ac 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Therefore the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is the baptism with the Holy Ghost that gives you eternal life through Jesus Christ.

The funny thing is that hardly anyone believes that.

Possibly because your answer is not biblically based. Scripture tells us John's baptism was a baptism of repentance not a "baptism in water of repentance". Baptism is not just an outwardly "thing". The word baptism means immersion. Coupled with many scripture proofs in the Word pointing to water, one that comes to mind is Phillip meeting with, and sharing Christ with, the eunuch, The eunuch asks Phillip what prevents me from being baptized and Phillip asks do you believe in the LORD Jesus with all your heart and the eunuch responds he does and the word says the chariot stopped and they went "down into the water".

No where in scripture does it say on the day of Pentecost that there was NO water present so why jump to that conclusion?

I do agree John did not baptize in the name of Jesus nor did he baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Scripture does not tell us exactly what words John used.

You are also correct that there is a baptism in the Spirit. Again a spiritual immersion in God's Spirit overflowing in us. It's interesting the Bible says it's like streams of Water bubbling up. Jesus called it living water.

I believe the Bible is clear baptism in water is to be done in Jesus name. There is power in the name of Jesus. Acts 4 tells us there is NO other name under heaven by which man is saved. I guess that leaves only one name. Jesus said I come in my fathers name, Hebrews chapter 1 tells us he inherited the name and Jesus said the Holy Spirit will come in His name. In Mathew 28 Jesus said baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. What is the name of the Son.. Jesus, What is the name of the Father... Jesus (which means Jehovah Savior) and what is the name of the Holy Ghost... Jesus (since Jesus said the Holy Ghost would come in His name)... thus all of scripture is in agreement that there is no other name than the name of Jesus. Also in Zecheriah 14:9 it says "in that day there will be one LORD and only ONE name.

John's baptism wasn't in water? What Bible are you reading?

Mt 3:4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

I think that the Jordan had water in it and confessing their sins was the act of repentance all making ready for Jesus Christ who would then baptize them in the Holy Ghost. Only men have to baptize with water because they can't baptize with the Holy Ghost only the Son of God can do that and He doesn't bother with water when water is only a symbol of the Holy Ghost to begin with.

As far as Acts 2:38 and there having to be a mention of no water in the passage for you to be wrong because that's what they teach at the church you go to? I would think that any sane man would think the other way and that if there is no context of water then ... you shouldn't presume there is any. But I'm not going to belabor that because the obvious thing is that Peter also adds ...

Ac 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ

for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Water can't remit sins - only the blood of Jesus Christ can. Water does not cover your soul it only gets you wet. The act of being baptized in Jesus' name takes on what He did at the cross - which coincidentally is mentioned two verses above...

Ac 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

The problem is that most people have been taught exactly what you're saying and they have believed it and then they teach it and then when these points are brought up - they can't believe it.

If this isn't the baptism of Jesus what is?
