Probably not during the battle, but a few months before, yes, it appears that he did. He was known to have had Heart disease, and it's very likely this affected him as he was continually under extreme stress due to the war.

About a month after the battle, he sent a letter to the Confederate government informing that, as well as having lost the battle, that he was physically exhausted and unable to continue fighting. Obviously the government refused to accept his resignation and he continued to command until the war ended nearly two years later.
