There are no actual records of this, but from the stories I've heard and some research the children would either live with relatives, grandparents and if they weren't available they were adopted. The sad part is, that often the relatives or adoptive parents couldn't afford to take all the siblings and they often would be lost from each other (going to different families.) When some became adults they persevered enough to actually look for their other sibling(s) and in many cases found them. This was quite common after WWII with the liberation of the Jews.

What age can siblings watch younger siblings in Ontario?

12yrs old is the youngest one can babysit and training is required. When it comes to children younger than that you will be leaving them alone. Depending on the children that may be OK depending on the situation, Ontario doesn't have a minimum age for leaving children alone because it is so hard to define. To be safe have your 12yr old attend a babysitting course. It will be educational and maybe even profitable as they could then babysit others.
