Apart from the gospels attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there are also gospels attributed to Thomas, Peter, Philip, James and Mary.

Most modern scholars regard all gospels as being pseudographical, which means that the disciples, to whom they were later attributed, did not really write them.

Another answer from our community:

The disciples Matthew and John wrote the two Gospels which bear their names. Peter also wrote two letters of the New Testament which bear his name. Although they are not specifically about Jesus Himself, they contain details and teachings in accordance with what He taught.

Two of the New Testament gospels are attributed to the disciples Matthew and John, although they were originally anonymous and remained so until later in the second century, when the Church Fathers attributed each of the gospels to the apostle thought most likely to have written it. On the other hand, biblical scholars say that the gospels could not have been written by eyewitnesses to the events portrayed.

As proof of the scholarly position is evidence that Matthew's Gospel was actually copied in large part from Mark's Gospel, with further sayings material believed to have been taken from the hypothetical 'Q' document. John's Gospel was loosely based on Luke's Gospel, which had also been copied from Mark's Gospel, and also had some material taken direct from Mark. A disciple of Jesus would not have need to copy from other sources, often word for word in the Greek language. We can confidently say that no disciple ever wrote any gospel material that has come down to us today.

Are any of the authors of 4 Gospels disciples of Jesus?

Matthew and John were disciples.

Did any of the disciples of Jesus write in any language different from the others as it pertains to the gospels?

The Bible was written for the uneducated and meant to be read aloud. It was more than likely first written in Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke when he taught and later it would be translated in Greek and Latin.

Did Philip write a book of the Bible?

Philip is listed as one of the twelve disciples but as far as we know , none of the disciples wrote anything. The four New Testament gospels were originally anonymous and were not written by any of the disciples, in spite of second-century attributions. There is a non-canonical Gospel of Philip but it was, like the canonical gospels, originally anonymous; in any case it is generally believed to have been written after 150 CE. This means that not only did Philip not write a book of the Bible, he also probably did not even write a book outside the Bible.

Didn't any disciples recorded Jesus' preachings during his period of three years?

Matthew and John recorded the preachings of Jesus after He died. These are found in the New Testament as the Gospels bearing their names. Other disciples, such as Peter, verbally communicated Jesus' preachings to others, such as Mark, who then recorded them in written form.

Who of the original twelve disciples wrote books of the Bible?

Christian tradition attributes the Gospels of Matthew and John to two of the twelve disciples. Epistles are also attributed to James, John, Jude and Peter.Actually, none of the twelve disciples wrote any book that we see in the New Testament. The four gospels were written anonymously and were only attributed th the disciples whose names they now bear, later in the second century. Scholars say that these gospels were not written by eyewitnesses to the events they portray. None of the epistles can be attributed to any of the disciples. In fact, Jude clearly identifies itself as a second-century book, while 2 Peter includes almost all of the material in Jude, proof that 2 Peter was also written during the second century. Scholars have looked closely at all these works to find evidence of the original disciples, but see nothing in the gospels or epistles that points back to any of the disciples.

Did Judas Iscariot write anything and were his writings in the Bible?

A Gospel of Judas Iscariot appears to have been in use among the Cainites, an early Gnostic sect. The Gospel was also mentioned by Irenaeus. However, it should be remembered that all the gospels, even those now in the Bible, were not really written by the disciples to whom they were attributed - so Judas Iscariot did not really write anything. One branch of Christianity came to dominate and was the branch that selected the gospels that it would include in its Bible. With the possible exception of John's Gospel, it did not include any Gnostic gospels.

Who is a Gospel author?

A:The New Testament gospels are attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, although those attributions were only made during the course of the second century. The New Testament gospels were originally anonymous, so we do not really know who wrote them. In particular, New Testament scholars say none of the gospels could have been written by an eyewitness to the events portrayed. Most of the gospels that are not found in the New Testament werealso attributed to various of the disciples and apostles, but it is most unlikely that any of these attributions is true.We do not know who wrote any of the gospels.

Did Philip and James write any Gospels?

No, we do not know who wrote any of the New Testament gospels, because they were originally anonymous until attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John later in the second century, however Philip and James were most unlikely to have been their authors. There are non-canonical gospels attributed to Philip and James, but they were not the real authors.

How many of John the Baptist's disciples left him for Jesus?

A:In John's Gospel (verses 1:37-40), Andrew and another disciple left John the Baptist to follow Jesus. Andrew went to Peter's house to tell him about Jesus, and Peter then followed. In the synoptic gospels, none of John's disciples left him to follow Jesus. Peter and Andrew were chosen by Jesus as he walked by the Sea of Galilee and saw them fishing.
