The Chicxulub Crater in Mexico, formed from the impact of a large asteroid or comet, is generally cited as the lead contributor to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Volcanism is also indicated as a cause for the extinction, and there is a theory and some evidence that the increased volcanism may have been a direct result of the Chicxulub impact.
