Did men help connect the Hudson with the East River?

[Edit]

Answer

Yes, there was a natural creek there, but it wasn't very useful for commerce so it was turned into a canal and the canals course is different from the creek that was there, so yes, the connection between the Hudson River and the Harlem River is man made.
