It was never implied that sponge bob was gay although he has a habit of always looking on the bright side of things even though at the time there maybe nothing to be happy about. No, but one deleted scene from "Valentine's Day" said that Spongebob and Sandy would kiss, and in Truth or Square, they got "married" and they would have officially kissed if it weren't for Sandy's bubble helmet.
