Of The Bible, Jesus prayed to His Father in heaven... and reveals to us: "...Thy Word is Truth..." (John 17:17).

And He tells us: "...the Scripture cannot be broken..." (John 10:35).

God never "inspired through His Holy Spirit" a passage of His Word "by mistake."

Certain "translations" of these inspired words into other languages, however, can lead some to "question God's motives." The "tone" of the King James translation makes it sound like the "witch hunts" of yore were sanctified by God. Not to mention the ones that are coming.

Ultimately... it's "man's motives" that are suspect as to the enthusiasm with which he applied his torture skills and pyrotechnic prowess to the task of "killing witches." After all... just who decides who the witches are, and who aren't?

God, on the other hand, had just become the "invisible King" of Abraham's children. He had the task of setting up a "sin-free" society that was to be a shining example of power, morality, wealth and prosperity to all the nations of the world.

"IF YE WILL OBEY MY VOICE INDEED, and keep My covenant [pact, agreement, marriage vow], then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be a kingdom of priests, and an HOLY NATION." (Ex.19:5-6)

That was "God's covenant with Israel" -- to OBEY GOD's VOICE!

"For I spake NOT unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: but THIS THING commanded I them, saying, OBEY MY VOICE, and I will be your God, and ye shall be My people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it MAY BE WELL UNTO YOU." (Jer.7:22-23)

God's "voice" spoke to the people three days later... and uttered the Ten Commandments into their ears -- that, if they would keep and do them, things might go well for them.

The Ten Commandments are all about Loving, Fearing, Revering and respecting our Creator... who has every right in the universe to demand obedience from His creation [especially, man, who is made in His image]. And to Love, Respect, and Care for and about our fellowman... to whom we all owe that obligation, through our Creator.

Unfortunately... God gave the earth to man in the beginning... and man then gave it to the "Serpent" ["...the Dragon... ...called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world..." - Rev.12:9].

It was the Dragon's voice which man has been obeying ever since [see Rev.13:4].

God, however... was calling the Israelites "out of the world" [sanctifying them for His Holy purpose] to become a holy and "peculiar nation." And indeed, any nation that would assay to follow the Commandments of God is truly a peculiar one in this world.

Exodus 22, which follows in the wake of the "marriage vows" of the Ten Commandments [chapter 20] between the Eternal Creator God [whose name later became Jesus Christ - John 1:3] and the children of Israel, is a continuation of "the Jugdments"... minor laws or ordinances of chapter 21... by which this newly-formed God-led society would function and run smoothly.

For the most part, the rules and regulations cover honorable restitution for infractions that might occur between and among the people.

Then, suddenly, "witches" and "perverse bestial sexual deviants" are announced as worthy of the death penalty amid God's long list of seemingly mundane laws and ordinances.

On the surface, to the carnal mind, it would seem out of place [a mistake].

Our Creator has a special place in His heart for the proper use and function of "sex" which He created... and He holds in utter disgust homosexuality and bestiality. This behavior is unacceptable in a "God-led society."

And it's not conducive to "things going well" for such a society.

"Not suffering a witch to live" is the result of a direct infraction against the First Commandment -- Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."

The word for "witch" in this case is better translated "sorceress"... one who deals with the "spirit world." You know... those "unclean spirits" to whom Adam and Eve gave up theirs and their children's sovereignty in the beginning.

People go to the sorceress [witch] for "advice"... and for help to solve their problems when nothing else seems to work.

God provides no place in His society for people who lead His people "astray" and away from Him and His Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding. Such as any who advise people to seek "spiritual guidance" from any source other than Himself.

Exodus 21-23 are laws which dealt with certain day-to-day disputes, occurances and infractions among God's people... and He tolerated no interference from any "outsider" who "advised" otherwise.

The insertion of the "witch" clause in the middle of these ordinances wasn't a "mistake." It was a "statement" that the people were to seek ONLY the judgments of God and of those whom He chose as their leaders.

"Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee... and they shall judge the people with just Judgment." (Deut.16:18)

And no witches, sorcerers, sorceresses or any other "spiritual advisors" were to be allowed a voice in any such "judgments" within God's society.

God didn't make a mistake... the Israelites did, when they refused to obey God's laws... and began to take the advice from the "spirit world."

It's the world in which most of the churches of this world deal and go to seek wisdom and help.

What Scriptures did the Catholic Church change in the Bible?

Roman Catholic AnswerYou are operating with a mistaken assumption. The Catholic Church wrote the Bible, the Catholic Church decided which books were canonical (included in the Bible), and the Catholic Church has conserved the Bible through the centuries. The only ones who changed any Scriptures in the Bible are the protestants, who, after fifteen centuries of a Bible preserved by the Catholic Church came along and threw books out of the Bible, and changed the meanings of books they would not throw out.
