A software engineer is someone who analyzes, designs, codes, and/or tests software. It is difficult to define the term "system engineer" because the term is overloaded to mean many things. Some examples of system engineering tasks include: system design, requirements development, requirements verification, system test, and engineering studies.

The distinction between software engineers and system engineers is vague since there is substantial overlap between the two. Generally, though, system engineers tend to focus more on users and domains, whereas software engineers focus more on implementation in software. System engineering may include substantial hardware engineering, whereas software engineering deals primarily with software. System engineers tend to have degrees in mathematics, science, or engineering, while software engineers more commonly have computer science degrees. System engineers may be involved in heavy software development. For example, system engineers may develop performance simulation software to aid in the production of feasible performance requirements.

Further compounding the confusion is the fact occasionally the term system engineer is used to mean a system administrator.

which can be dine using any computer programming language like c, java, c# etc. or application development tools.

where as system engineering is the process of developing any system like any project in general, system engineering can be building, constructions, all pre-planning, in any fields.

software engineering can be said as a part of system engineering.
