A GIF animation is essentially a flipbook, it is several frames put together in order to "simulate" animation. Gif animations are often crude and low resolution. Flash anim. on the other hand is made with Dreamweaver (or some other program), where the possibilities of creation(animation) are endless :)
Most notable differences are
- GIF images support a simple animation, while JPEG are standstill
- GIF images support a maximum of 256 (8 bit) colors per pixel, JPEG images allow for a maximum of 24 bit of color per pixel
- GIF images are compressed loss less, while JPEG usually is stored using a lossy algorithm (but not necessarily)
- accordingly GIF files are usually larger than JPEG for the same image

In brief : jpeg is usually lossy & GIF only allows 256 colors.

Image file formats.
There are multiple differences between GIF images and JPEG images. One main difference is that a GIF may show an animation, while a JPEG is simply one still picture.
Yes, generally speaking JPEG compresses best of all graphic formats (with loss of image information).
Thats format in which image data will be stored. Difference is because some image formats allows you to save editeble layers along with file (PSD) and some don't (JPEG, GIF, PNG).
The JPEG format was specifically designed to minimize the size of the file beyond what other formats were able to do at that time (for example BMP RLE or GIF LZW). In order to achieve it, it was decided to accept minor degradation of the image quality - with other words the compression is lossy. For more details about how the JPEG format compares to other image formats, please see the related question.
JPEG images (jpeg, jpg) use compression formats to reduce the data file size for digital images. While this causes a loss of image quality, it enables images to be more efficiently stored and transmitted.
Compression methods are used for images compression and most common compressions are JPEG which is lossy (you can lost some details or quality of image), LZW which is lossless, RLE and ZIP also lossless compressions.
Google Docs supports .jpeg, .png, .gif (non-animated), .tiff, .bmp image formats.
I know two Mp3 and Wav
The best Image viewer is FastStone image viewer. This is because it has the ability to view images in a very wide range of different image formats including BMP, JPEG and many more.
Best formats are .psd and .tiff to edit files in photoshop, but you can save and as .png, jpeg
JPG and JPEG both stand both for an image format proposed and supported by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. The two terms have the same meaning and are interchangeable. Both JPEG and JPG are bitmap compression formats for picture and image files with compression ratios ranging from 10:1 to 20:1. In fact, JPG and JPEG file formats are identical.Older DOS-based computers were designed to handle a maximum "3-character file extension" which is why JPG was attributed to compressed image files. Newer Operating systems allow for longer file extensions as evidenced by .html. Accordingly, the JPG file extension was upgraded to the JPEG file extension which is the true acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group.
