For metals, hardness is a measure of the deformation of a surface of the metal when subjected to a normal compressive force with a ball or other shape. Its units are arbitrary.

Tensile strength is a measure of the maximum tensile load per unit of cross sectional area a material can withstand without breaking. Units are force/area.

What are the disadvantages of having iron armor?

The hardness and tensile strength provided by iron armor in comparison to its weight. The same hardness and/or tensile strenght can be matched or beaten by lighter alloys.

Difference between 10.9 and 12.9 tensile bolts?

Grade 10.9 bolts or capscrews have a minimum tensile strength of 1040N/mm2 and a hardness of 320 - 380Hv10. Grade 12.9 bolts or capscrews have a minimum tensile strength of 1220N/mm2 and a hardness of 385 - 435Hv10. The 12.9 fastener is therefore a higher grade (hardness and tensile strength) fastener compared with 10.9 grade

The ability to be stretched into thin wires?

malleability and tensile strength.

How are hardness and tensile strength related?

There are tables that give you the Tensile Strength based on a Rockwell Hardness test of a specimen of metal. For example: Rc of 54 is a Steel of TSU = 300,000 psi. Google the internet for Rockwell Hardness Table.

What is the tensile strength of aisi 1075 steel?

if its standard wrought carbon steel, the psi should be just about in the 100,000psi range. The last two digits of the designation, 75, are the carbon content. 0.75%. the higher the carbon content, the higher the tensile strength. The ultimate tensile strength of a steel such as AISI 1075 varies depending upon the heat treated condition and hardness. The tensile strength of a steel can be approximated from the hardness using hardness conversion tables found elsewhere on the web.

What does 10.9 refer to on a metric bolt?

10.9 on a metric bolt indicates the hardness (or load, tensile strength, and hardness) of the bolt. This is almost as high as they get and is about the equivalent to a grade 8 SAE or USS bolt. 8.8 is also a common metric hardness.

What is the tensile strength of uranium?

What is stronger a brick or skull?

Depends on what stronger means, can be tensile limit or hardness. Well I would say carbonfibre composites that are made from carbon, fibres, and metals.
