Discussion on 'Can you get auto insurance with just a learner's permit?'

The answer depends on the age of the person with the learners permit. If you are under 18, the standard practice is to be added to the parents' or guardians' policy. Most top rated companies do not even charge for this addition until you have your regular license in that situation. Plus, if you are under age 18, you cannot buy insurance on your own because it is a contract. No one under that age can, because it would not be legally binding. Hope this helps!

I'm an agent-you are not required to have insurance if you only have a permit. IT VARIES FROM STATE TO STATE- but I am an agent in PA... You do not even need to be listed as a driver if you only have your permit. Once you pass your test and get your license- you will THEN need to be either listed as a driver or pick up your own insurance.
