Cost of labor repairing blend door actuator or how do I repair it myself on a 1999-2003 Ford Windstar?

I must share my easy installation of the blend door actuator since this site has helped me. I have a 2003 Windstar. I unscrewed the 4 screws and popped out the fasteners holding the bottom cover of the middle console. Undo the 2 snaps in the front of the cover and pull the cover out and over to the passenger’s side. Push the front seat toward the back and lay on the driver’s side floor. With the drink holder pulled out there was enough room to get at the actuator and its screws. A 1/4 inch ratchet drive with the 5/16 inch socket removed the thing easily. Removal of the old and installation of the new one took less than 10 minutes. I didn’t need to remove the glove compartment, the radio or the climate controls. I hope this will help someone. Good luck.

I have a 2000 Windstar and had all the classic symptoms of the blend door actuator failing. I purchased a replacement and am now trying to install it. When I plug the new actuator in and move the temperature control, nothing happens. I am trying to get the shaft to line up so I can install it. I have read all the discussions on this topic and know that the swith has to be at full cold for it to line up.
But it is almost as if there is a blown fuse or something.
I have checked the fuse and it is OK. According to the manual it is a 10 amp fuse in pos. 10.
I don't know what else to try. All of the other controls work.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if, when experiencing the problem of no heat coming out the front, a click/thumping noise is indicative of the problem being the door motor or a broker door? The repair shop told me it would be $60 just to determine which was the problem. At that point, if it was the motor the repair cost would be minor compared to replacing the door, which is part of a whole unit - parts and labor to replace the whole unit would be $1,300!!!!
