- In reply to "Something Odd", I would like to explain that if the lady or gentleman in question who wrote from an entirely different continent lived in the USA, he or she would probably have a better understanding of why parents here are frequently compelled to consider options other than public schools. Unfortunantely, the standard of education in most public schools in America is absolutely appalling. Children are not disciplined, there are no REAL consequences for disgusting behaviour and the academic bar is set so low that many children are barely literate by the age of 10. My family and I unfortunately moved here from a fifferent continent and are currently struggling to educate our own children. We are concerned about many aspects of homeschooling and I agree wholeheartedly with the writer of "Something Odd" that a complete education is not possible at home but we view homeschooling as a better option to public schools in the USA. Children here are media saturated (movies, TV, sitcoms etc) and they emulate what they see, in other words, they learn to be sarcastic, mean, manipulative and self entitled through watching destructive, rude, sarcastic behaviour in movies and TV shows. Adults here are so obsessed with protecting childrens' so called "self esteem" that they are creating generations of lazy, rude, spoilt young adults who expect the world to hand them everything on a silver platter. Enough said.
