It has been proven that people on antidepressants have weight gain. But is it the medication or the depression? Depressed people eat. The only way to truely find out is to keep a food diary. If you count your calories, ALL of them, i think you will see that it is not the drug, It is your eating habits. I am a nurse and have many many many patients on Lexapro and other antidepressants that do not have any weight issues.

Depression itself can definately cause weight gain and Lexapro adds to that because it messes with your bodies metabolism and hormones. I too, have gained weight from Lexapro and I didn't change a thing with my eating habits or exercise routine. The only way that you can lose weight is being very diligent about what you put in your mouth. I also purchased P90X and now workout 6 days a week and I'm finally dropping the weight. I used to only work out 4 times a week, but so long to that. You can check out P90X on the web...it is definately helping me. On a positive note, Lexapro is one of the top 5 antidepressants drugs there is.

Lexapro its self does not cause weight gain. However, depression often times causes differences in eating patterns, some people eat more, and others eat less. So, once you build up enough lexapro in your system and you start feeling back to (some what) normal, it is not uncommon for eating patterns to change.
