I have taken tramadol everyday for at least 2 years, not daily for at least 3 due to my job (i worked at a nursing home, and I had a nurse who was giving some at work for back and leg pain at the time before it was classified as a control substance at work). I liked the buzz, it helped my pain and help me focus on my job taking care of people, and it gave me energy and endurance at my job, and it beat taking a lortab (so i thought) because it wouldnt pop up in a drug test, so I was under the assumption hat if it was not a classified narcotic, it wouldn't be addictive. So, I started ordering them off of the internet. This became a downward spiral to hell. I now have to reorder 180 tabs every damn 2 weeks. If I happen to take them all before Im due for another refill, I am in pure pain, have major mood swings, crying spells, increase sneezing and stuffy or nose, increased tear production of the eyes) insomnia, chills and just have increased sensitivity to temperature. I get these "brain zaps" while walking with every step. It feels like it starts in my toungue and brain at the same time. It feels like my brain zaps. I automatically cringe. It feels like what happens when you stick your toungue on a 9 volt battery. Then the shock travels down my body and it feels like a prickly spurt of electricity that shoots down my body through to my fingers and toes. I have an increased urge to go to the bathroom, and when i do i have loose stools, and I also lose my desire to eat and/or my appetite. I feel feverish. I have leg cramps and restless leg syndrome. It is a very stupid drug to fool with. It will trick you and have a hold on you I believe as bad as heroin and the effects of this feeling stays as long as it wants at times it has been over a month one time when I tried quitting it cold turkey. Then I had to order more on the internet. After a month, I still couldnt handle it, I was probably almost there and picked it up again and it's been to the point where I budget it in my bills. I am currently on withdrawals now so I am painting a grim picture, but there is a silver lining to it because I have a local herbal store (head shop) and I told him what damage I have done and I was feeling at the time. He truly saved me from my hell. He started me on a multi-vitamin (alive!) ( you can purchase on at iherb.com or its at walmart, walgreens and other national chains and health food stores (i highly recommend it due to it being food based so it is easily bioavailable and easy to digest and you will need that when you have stomach issues in withdrawal stages. It also has a broad spectrum amino acids that you so desparately need during your withdrawal stage , malic acid (magnesium maltate)(leg pain and muscle spasms and restless leg syndrome), potassium (leg cramps), and he sold me an ultimate life-saver: Kratom capsules(Mitragyna speciosa). It is a species from Thailand (Thai) IT WILL HELP WITH THE PAIN AND WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS TRMENDOUSLY. I am also trying turmeric for inflammation and rebuilding of liver and ginger for my stomach issues. I am also smoking an herbal inscense (herbal smoke, smokeable herbal blends etc.) or marijuana alternative (may not be legal in some states but if it is, get it you will no longer feel "the zaps" and you may get relaxed enough to get a nap and you need your rest because even though it may or may not be a self induced illness, you are still very ill and if youre experience any insomnia or restless leg syndrome, any sleep is welcome. The dude who helped me was a Godsend, I am feeling so amazing right now from the smoke and all the other ingredients. With all that I believe in my heart that you must, must, MUST! increase your water intake (start slow, take it as far as you can stand the first day and more day 2, day 3 etc so you can hyrate your muscles and flush your system faster of the tramadol. Sweating also helps and if you sweat in the sun as long as you are exposing as much as your body as you're can, youre intaking your body's natural form of D3. That also is an essential vitamin your body needs in this time of hell because it helps with flu-like symptoms you can experience. Drink a lot of juice (fruit and veggie as tolerated)and eat a lot of chicken noodle soup or broth as tolerated and just hang in there. You may be in this for a long period of time so, use your time wisely. Gradually add walking and gentle stretches, yoga, swimming, sauna/steamroom/sauna/jacuzzi, bathe in hot baths preferably with epsom salt or a bath salt solution such as dr. teals stress relief with eucalyptus and spearmint a few times a week between showers and just take care of yourself. You deserve it and you owe it yourself and your loved ones to hang in there and quit. Write your thoughts in your journal, and consider going to the emergency room to ask for help if the problems persist. If you're ready to quit and you feel like this drug is taking over your life, don't be ashamed and don't be hard on yourself

I was taking tramdal for about a year. One pill a day 50mg. No reason really other then I liked the way I felt when on them. I recently decided to stop after hearing about how horrible the wd symptoms are. I don't even have a craving to want to take one ever again! The only thing is I'm on day four and although I'm not bursting with energy,I don't feel that bad.Day 1-3 were horrible. Can I hope the worst is behind me or am I in for a surprise.I'm so worried.

Ohh boy never thought people were having this sort of trouble. Been taking approx 500mg daily for 2 months, as I often have headaches. Was feeling good on the Tramadol, so 2 months just flew by... As I am an Aussie leaving as an Expat in Thailand. It is easy to get a 500 tablet bottle for $20 in Thailand. Yes I completed the bottle, so I thought I would look up whether I should get another. Sounds like 'cold turkey' may not be the way to go. I will get a 100 tablet bottle and goto 200mg daily then 100 over the next month. See how i go....

Take it from me, Tramadol is highly addictive. I've been on 800 MG/day for about 18 months and decided to quit cold turkey. Yesterday was hell but today seems to be better. My job takes me to Laredo Texas pretty often and tramadol is over the counter in mexico and dirt cheap. 1 bottle of 100, 100 MG pills cost about 22 bucks. Its the same in every mexico city so getting it is no problem. Not to mention it is also a mouse click away but thats more expensive. I did find that what eased my withdrawal is a supplement from GNC that helps the body balance serotonin levels. Its made by natrol. I will never take this stuff again. Good luck to everyone trying to get off of it!!

I'm so glad people are talking about tramadol!! I have been taking 8 a day for 4 years and am now on day 6 without the pills.
This had been hell on earth. What a freakin nightmare!!
I went from 8 to 5 to 2.
I will never touch this drug again. Every symptom they talk about totally sucks!
Please stay away from this drugs. They say its non narcotic...but its in the same class as opiats!!

i have been taking tramadol about 5 pills a day for a week. i know that doesn't seen long, but I took them to relieve the pain from a two year suboxone program i was on, and was not tapered from. I had went to a psych ward the Dr. I had believes in "cold turkey". So I came home and got my hands on some Tramadol. I only have 3 left and i am scared, I've been on opiates for 10 years. Will I get sick if I only took them for a week?
