- I was taught to draw the shape of the face first... either being round like a circle... thin like an oval shape, etc. Whatever shape it looks like...
- Once you get the basic shape, you divide it across (horizontal) and then up-and-down (vertical).
- On the horizontal line is where the eyes are placed. Make sure you center the eyes on the horizontal line and an equal distance apart from the vertical line. (This vertical line will end up being the bridge of the nose.)
- Next you divide the face again between the horizontal line you just drew the eyes and where the chin is. That will be your guideline on where to place the nose. The nose sits on that line and depending on the size of the nose, it fits between the eyes... give or take...
- This time you divide the face again. Draw another horizontal line half way between the line you drew for the nose and the chin. This is where the mouth is place. The mouth is usually as wide as the pupils in the eyes.
- Don't forget the ears!!! The tops of the ears start where the eye lines are and the bottoms of the ears end where the nose line is. You can make them bigger or smaller, as needed.
- Last is the hair. I know it looks like your face so far has a BIG head, but this is where you place the hair. I guess the easiest way to do the hair is to draw the hair line and do a light outline of the shape of hair and then fill in.
- These are not exact and of course you can adjust as needed, but hopefully you get the basic idea... and hopefully you can understand this.
