Could be a thurst bearing is out. This allows the crank to "walk" and will trash a flex plate in short order. The motor we worked on kept cracking flex plates near the crank mounting bolts. The FP would start wobbling tearing up all kinds of stuff inside the bellhousing (on a quiet motor you could hear the noise, on you alky motor not so lucky) then the center would crack completely out and the FP would fall off or bet tossed off tearing up even more stuff.

Check the crank for endplay. You may have a bad thrust bearing.
