Ive also been eating baby powder every since I was young. I love the smell, texture, and the feeling that I get when I eat it.I can't stop thinking about it until I get my hands on it. I tried to stop many times but the urge comes back because its like my body craves it. The worst time I crave it is when I have eaten a meal then im satified after I eat it. My boyfriend knows and he's understanding. SOmetimes he makes a joke and say that I need to be on "Strange Addictions" lol. I used to eat chalk too but stopped because its not as good as powder. Also tried drywall which I did eat for a while but found stuff in it that I didnt won't to consume so I stopped. I Just eat powder and freezer ice which I like just as much as powder. Sometimes I would go eat the freezer ice than go eat powder just to top it off. The only baby powder that I love to eat is the "Equate Pure Cornstarch Baby Powder with Aloe and Vitamin E" that you get only at Wal-mart. When I start to eat the baby power, I try not to swallow. First: I put some in my mouth and chew it, than when it gets wet/watery, I spit it out than I rinse my mouth out until theres none in my mouth left becuase I don't really know the effects of baby powder. When I spit it out, I see that it sinks to the bottom of the toilet and I just don't won't it to sink like that in me. SO, I just put it in my mouth, satify my craving, spit it out, then rinse my mouth out really really good until I don't see no more traces. Oh and my boyfriend is the only one that knows cause I don't won't anyone to think that I am a nutt-case lol, which I'm not!!!!

Well im really addicted to eating baby powder and i've been researching alot about it. Some of the responces say that they have mineral difinciansies (excuse my grammar)
well this is what i managed to find :
Risks of Talcum Powder

jump to links

Q. What is talc?

A. Talc is a mineral, produced by the mining of talc rocks and then processed by crushing, drying and milling. Processing eliminates a number of trace minerals from the talc, but does not separate minute fibers which are very similar to asbestos.

Q. What kinds of consumer products contain talc?

A. Talc is found in a wide variety of consumer products ranging from home and garden pesticides to antacids. However, the products most widely used and that pose the most serious health risks are body powders Talc is the main ingredient in baby powder, medicated powders, perfumed powders and designer perfumed body powders. Because talc is resistant to moisture, it is also used by the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture medications and is a listed ingredient of some antacids. Talc is the principal ingredient home and garden pesticides and flea and tick powders. Talc is used in smaller quantities in deodorants, chalk, crayons, textiles, soap, insulating materials, paints, asphalt filler, paper, and in food processing.

I am so glad to hear that other's eat Baby Powder besides me. I to eat the Johnson and Johnson. But only the Lavender one. I started doing this after I had gotten Gastric Bypass surgery and after we adopted a son who is emotionally disturbed. I can go weeks or a month at a time without eating it. I am 42 and have been eating since I was 30! I finally confessed to my husband a few weeks ago. I was embarrassed. What happen was we were watching a tv program about people eating weird things and I finally told him. He is the only one in family that knows. I have also bought it before and stopped where no one could see me and I ate a bunch of it. The only problem I have with it is that it dries my mouth out and gives me sores on my tongue. Which makes it hard to eat certain foods and drink anything that has carbonation. I love the texture too and also when I get upset or stressed that is the first thing I want to do to soothe myself. Someone said that they like to chew ice as well. My husband and I are anemic and our doctors both said that is one way we can tell when our Iron is way too low.

Wow i was in the middle of facebookong as i take a swig of Dawnmist Baby Powder, and as it set my tastes buds ablaze as always. When i thought i can't possibly be to the only one who eats this stuff. threw eating babypowder into the nearest search bar and was quite surprised. I never told anyone this and it was hard keeping it a secret. I've been eating since like 12 and in 22 now. I tried to quit as well and succeeded for a year. And it was Hard! but one day when I was spring cleaning i found an old bottle with a little left and i was hooked again. I like Johnson's cornstarch and i add a sprinkle of baking soda too. then i found Dawnmist who has baking soda in it already. I eat this one sparingly because it also has tixosil and I don't know what that it. I too am highly anemic.

When pregnant with my first child my pica came about. It started off with me taking showers everyday and rubbing the baby powder on myself because I liked the way it felt. It then became a thing I had to smell, I would have the bottle and squeeze it for little clouds to come out, the most amazing smell ever. Soon after my mouth just started to water from the smell and I had to try it. I did, and loved everything about it. I know it happened because one, I was pregnant and two, I'm anemic. I was on iron pills to get my iron level back up, but it only made me nausea. After I gave birth to my first it subsided, and shortly after I was pregnant again, and my intake became much worst then before. I tried to stop I wanted to, but the cravings won every time and still do. After both pregnancies my disorder is still present. I know by me doing it while pregnant my children have a greater chance to have this disorder. Therefore, I try and do It in secrecy from my kids and husband. My main concern is the talc. Knowing it causes cancer and still unable to gain the willpower to stop bothers me. I have no real control over this.

NOTE:
One case showed crystallosis in the lymph glands of a woman who used dental powder containing Tricalcium Phosphate. She admitted inhaling when inserting her dentures so that she would not gag.
This woman died as a result of adenocarcinoma in the lungs, lymph glands, and thorax.
It is NOT safe to eat anything in powdered form. Baby powder contains Tricalcium Phosphate, which is toxic to the lungs, and cannot be broken down in the body. As a result, it can lodge in your tissues and cause serious health issues.

Your body is craving calcium. Immediately see your Doctor, for 2 reasons:

Reason 1) He/she may prescribe calcium, and possibly other mineral suppliments along with vitamin D.

Reason 2)MOST IMPORTANT: You may have inhaled the powder.

Tricalcium Phosphate when inhaled is harmful. Here is the proof. This is a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) which states:

"The substance is toxic to lungs, mucous membrane."

http://www.gadotbio.com/var/124/1359-MSDS - TRI CALCIUM PHOSPHATE.pdf

Frequent exposure may cause particulates to lodge in the lungs. One case showed crystallosis in the lymph glands of a woman who used dental powder containing Tricalcium Phosphate.
Beta TCP has been banned, in some forms, for use as a bone filler.

ANY particulate can be unhealthy when inhaled.

Thank you God! I have Pica and I have been eating Shower to Shower powder since I was 12years old. Now I am 28. People always thought that I was being childish or silly because I couldn't break the habit. The only time that I did not crave the powder is when I was in the middle of my pregnacy. I tried to stop and I have not had a bottle for two weeks. I couldn't take and not having it increased my appetite. I went to target tonight to purchase a bottle and they only sell it in the pharmacy now. I did go to Walmart and I found it on the shelves. I am very pciky about which powder to purchase and I am so addicted. That is what made me google this topic today. I had no idea that there were others out there like me. I want to be healthy and break this habit. Thank you to whomever started this page. My mother called me a crack attack tonight.

I had no idea that there were so many people with this problem. For 30 years I've been addicted to eating white powdery substances: chalk, baby, powder, baking soda, powdered sugar. My chalk addiction was the very worst and I hid it from everyone. No one knows about my addiction. Now, I can't stop eating baking powder and chewing an enormous amount of calcium pills. It's a sickness. I saw a box of chalk yesterday and almost caved in.

Hello everyone. I'm 31 years old, and I have the same issue. Gosh, I'm glad I came to this page. I am also surprised that so many other people eat baby powder. This is amazing; you think that you're the only one in the world that does this and you feel humiliated by it, then you find out that you're NOT the only one.

I don't have a particular brand that I prefer. I just eat the one that has very, very little scent. I made the mistake in buying just the regular baby powder once that had too much perfume in it (I only ate it once) and it tasted awful. The mild scented baby powder is perfect and tastes the best. I hope this isn't harmful because I've been doing this since High School, and I haven't seen any effects from it.

Anyhow, I'm glad I'm not alone. Thanks to whomever started this page!

one more note: the dark lines wash off really easily, so don't worry about long term effects. It's more like someone rubbed some ash on your cheek.

Also, it's easy to fix iron-deficiency. All you need to do is buy iron supplements from your local pharmacy's vitamin area.

(14) On October 19, 2009 at 8:07 am Canajen [0] said:

This is a clear sign of strong iron deficiency in your body. Many poorly trained doctors don't bring it up. Iron-deficient people sometimes crave to chew on powder, hair and other things like paint chips. Here's some more info from the government. Look on page 56:

http://www.nal.usda.gov/wicworks/Sharing_Center/CO/COlevel1screeningmodulebloodworkp56to74.pdf

A good test to see if you're iron deficient without going to the doctor is to rub a piece of uncoated gold on your cheek. Do it hard, like you're trying to wipe a stain off of your cheek. If you're piece of gold isn't coated (so the metal isn't blocked from touching the skin) and you're iron deficient, you'll get dark lines on your face. I do this once a month to see if I'm getting enough iron. good luck!
