- Occupational Therapists are rehabilitation professionals who are specially trained in addressing issues of occupation...occupation meaning not just vocation, but all of the activities that occupy our everyday lives, which could mean work skills, or activities of daily living (ADLs) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as driving or money management, leisure skills, or ability to participate in educational programs (the highest percentage of OTs work in schools). Within that context, OTs work in hand clinics, schools, rehabilitation hospitals, work hardening programs, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care, home health, psychiatric hospitals, and other areas helping people with a wide range of disabilities to be able to participate more fully in the activities they need or want to do in their daily lives by helping to regain lost function or adapting activities and environments to the person's abilities.
